Cocaine addiction

Full hypnosis download Cocaine addiction treatment

Cocaine addiction is a problem on so many levels. Everybody knows the more obvious downsides, but fewer people are aware that it also greatly increases the risk of paranoid hallucinations and other types of psychosis as well as sudden death through heart attack. (1)

Cocaine abuse – like any activity with a major impact on the central nervous system – can quickly start to feel compulsive. And once anything starts to feel compulsive then you’ve lost (or let’s be more positive and say ‘mislaid’) your free will as a human being. We can all become ‘slaves’ in different ways.

But continually artificially stimulating the brain’s natural ‘reward centres’ brings another danger in its wake. It becomes harder and harder to find and experience pleasure without cocaine.

If you were completely able bodied but insisted on always using a wheelchair to get around, there would come a point when, even though you were perfectly healthy in every other respect, you would have great difficulty in getting up and walking because your muscles would have wasted through disuse and would not support you. Similarly, body builders using anabolic steroids can find that their testicles shrink because the presence of artificial testosterone means their testicles are no longer needed to produce their own. And in the same way cocaine use can mean less overall pleasure. Cocaine use can also diminish appreciation of the more subtle pleasures in life, like someone who can only appreciate sweet tastes because everything has always been deluged with sugar and they have no palate for any other flavours.

Any addiction is a relationship, sometimes passionate, but ultimately destructive. It’s a fake relationship that requires you to give everything to the addiction and get nothing genuine in return. The new cocaine addiction session for hypnosisdownloads.com focuses on moving away from the fake and artificial towards a genuinely fuller and more satisfying life.

Tanorexia

Natural sunshine and its mood-lifting effects and essential vitamin D boosting benefits are well known and understood. Lack of vitamin D, for example, has been linked to cancers, multiple sclerosis, schizophrenia and, of course, rickets, a disease whose best known symptom is softened and deformed bones. Twenty minutes a day of moderate sunshine is good for you.

But the dangers of excessive UV light are also widely understood – damage to skin cells, premature aging, increased risk of skin cancer and sometimes quite severe burning. Like anything in life, it’s a matter of getting the proportions right. Some is good but more is most certainly not always better.

A worrying number of people get this balance wrong. And some display such an unhealthy dependence, both psychologically and physically, on excessive sunbathing and/or the use of tanning beds that a new term is in circulation to describe it – ‘tanorexia’, or tanning addiction.

But how much of a genuine addiction is tanning dependency?

Back in 2005 a study found that ‘habitual’ tanners often feel out of control of the habit. They also display other markers commonly associated with addictions like drinking and smoking, such as preoccupation with the ‘next fix’ and withdrawal symptoms. (1) It might also be the case that the opioid release in the brain experienced during tanning, and built up with frequent tanning, itself creates a dependency and expectation of more sun ‘highs’.

The tanorexic tanning addict may feel the pressures of the competition to always have the ‘best tan’ on the Costa Brava, but at what cost? The session out this month Tanorexia is for anyone who is big enough to admit that they have a bit of a problem and would rather save their skin while there’s still time.

Social network addiction

Think about this: You are a prehistoric person, in a wolf-infested forest 300,000 years ago (but physiologically no different from modern humans). You know there are wolves out there. You look left, then quickly right, you check behind you and look for a few moments straight ahead, before flicking your attention back to the left again. You keep checking and flicking your attention from one point to another because you are so stressed. It’s dangerous!

But it can work the other way. If you adopt the behaviours of stress (constantly checking, flitting attention from one thing to another moment by moment), the behaviour itself can drive up your stress levels.

Just like if you adopt a depressed posture and facial expression and ‘act depressed’, pretty soon you’ll start to feel depressed.

From an evolutionary perspective we haven’t changed that much since we obsessively (and very sensibly) checked for wolves 300,000 years ago. But fast forward to modern times. You check your email. Then you check Facebook for any updates. Your phone beeps to let you know a text has arrived and you check at once to see who it’s from. And of course you must reply at once. You send a couple of IMs and look to see if anyone has left you a message on Skype. A quick check on Twitter to see if anyone has noticed your latest tweet. If you get too far from a social networking device you start to feel tense. Are you missing out?

Is it any wonder you feel stressed? There might not be any wolves in this forest (some would dispute that!), but your biological mechanisms, evolved all those millennia ago, don’t know that. Your behaviour triggers the danger signals.

Don’t get me wrong – social networking has a multitude of benefits that I wouldn’t knock for a minute! But with great opportunity and advantages come inevitable downsides. Constant checking can make us anxious and result in feeling enslaved and controlled by the very social networking tools that are supposed to serve us. As with any addiction, we can feel bereft and tense, unable to feel comforted any other way. (1) (2)

The new hypnpsisdownloads.com social network addiction session seeks to help people loosen the grip of these technological connection tools and feel free to leave the forest, find the cave, and relish real stillness and calm.

(1) According to an Ipsos OTX study of 7,000 online consumers aged 13 to 74, it was found that thanks to smartphones and laptops, people are now spending one-half of their waking days focussing online and have increased their media consumption by an hour per day over the last two years. (Reported in The Wrap, September 2010: Ipsos OTX Study: People Spend More Than Half Their Day Consuming Media

(2) A University of Maryland study (24 Hours: Unplugged) found that students feel addictively hooked on social media and cell phones, describing withdrawal in terms similar to those used by drug and alcohol addicts. 200 students gave up all media for 24 hours. Reactions showed addiction-like withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, misery, and being jittery. One study participant wrote that being able to text and send instant messages gave them a “a constant feeling of comfort” without which he or she felt “quite alone and secluded from my life.”
